• We are so sad to hear of Floyd's passing. He was instrumental in helping me in my research of RAF 514 Squadron. His book "Through Footless Halls of Air" was one of the first books that I used in finding out much, much more about the squadron. He attended a reunion that I organized in Hamilton, Ontario in 2005 and was the guest speaker. The veterans in attendance LOVED HIM. A great man who gave from his heart. • I was saddened to learn of Mr. Williston's passing. I needed some information for an article I was writing on Pete Seeger's time in Canada; a mutual friend suggested I write Floyd. The response I received exceeded my expectations. Floyd clearly was able to see the big picture while seeing all the details as well. • I learned of Floyd's passing by phone this morning from Phyllis. I became acquainted with Floyd many years ago because of our mutual connection with the Boston Marathon. His biography of Johnny Miles (Boston Marathon champion 1926 and 1929) is one of the best chroniciling Johnny's life and the warm affection the Williston family held for Johnny is remarkable. The Willistons allowed me to enter in to their lives and I spent many happy days with them at various Williston/Miles functions. I think of them each day when I gaze at the various paintings I have of Sydney Mines and the many friends I met while in Nova Scotia. I will miss Floyd -- he was my "go to" person whenever I need information regarding a Canadian runner. • I met Floyd almost 60 years ago when he moved to Winnipeg. Being somewhat older than me he served as a fine role model of dedication to one's principles and being of service to others. Floyd was always quick to laugh and I loved his "maritime" sense of humor. Though we saw one another at rare intervals over the years when we did meet our connection was always warm and friendly.
